Janus Wadsworth

Horn Soloist

Janus Wadsworth pursues a professional freelance career whilst working as a brass teacher. He has played with many local and professional orchestras.

Janus Wadsworth was born in Huddersfield and began playing the horn at the age of 9, learning with the aid of the Kirklees music service, local amateur orchestras and the Kirklees Youth Orchestra.

At 17 Janus began to study the horn at the RNCM in Manchester (which is where he first met Jonathan Hunter) and, after 5 years, left to pursue a freelance career.

After a year of playing with the Manchester Camerata Janus began a teaching course at Manchester University (Didsbury) and in 1989 came to York to begin working as a brass teacher for North Yorkshire County Council. It was from this point that he began to play with some of the local orchestras whilst also pursuing a professional freelance career.

Janus has played with the Halle Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, English Northern Philharmonia, Opera North, Northern Sinfonia and the Northern Ballet Orchestra. Janus now works for the East Riding of Yorkshire Music Service.
