Christina Waldock

Cello Soloist

Christina Waldock has performed on London’s South Bank and in concerts and music clubs throughout the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, USA and Russia.

Christina Waldock began to play the cello at the age of six and studied with Susan Lowe in York before taking up a scholarship to the Purcell School, where she studied with Joan Dickson.  She won a scholarship to the Royal Northern College of Music, but read Modern and Medieval Languages at Pembroke College, Cambridge.  She has taken part in masterclasses with Steven Isserlis, Alexander Baillie, Steve Doane and members of the Amadeus and Endellion Quartets.  She has also participated in the IMS masterclasses at Prussia Cove.

During her time at Cambridge, Christina was a member of the Kettles’ Yard Ensemble, she gave many solo and duo recitals and she performed concerti by Elgar, Kabalewski and Schumann.  She was co-principal cellist of CUCO and principal cellist of Cambridge Strings, with whom she took residency at the 1994 Ryedale Festival.

Christina has performed Tchaikowski’s Rococo Variations in the Normanhurst Festival, the Dvorak concerto with Oldham Symphony Orchestra and Tavener’s The Protecting Veil with the Academy of St. Olave’s, after which the Yorkshire Evening Press had this to say: ‘…she became an ikon almost before she had played a note. […] accurate delivery […] powerful indeed […] quite breathtakingly intense.’

As a member of the Juventus Quartet Christina performed on London’s South Bank and at festivals and music clubs throughout the country. She is currently a member of Convergence, a loosely-knit chamber ensemble, she has a fruitful duo partnership with Mark Knoop and performs in a piano trio with Mark Knoop and Deborah White. She has performed in Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, and Russia. Future plans include tours to Canada and the USA, and chamber and solo performances across the UK.
