Adam Micklethwaite read music at the University of York, completing an MA in composition in 2000. He has played as soloist in York, Birmingham and Lyon.

Adam was born in 1977 and began playing the cornet at age 6, before moving on to the trumpet. He studied trumpet at King Edward’s School, Birmingham, with John Saunders and Bryan Allen of the Fine Arts Brass Ensemble.

Adam read music at the University of York, studying composition with David Blake and completing an MA in composition in 2000. His composition The Gate of Horn was performed by the Northern Sinfonia in Newcastle as part of the Young Composers’s Workshop.

Adam has played as soloist in York, Birmingham (Hummel Trumpet concerto) and Lyon where he played the Trumpet Concerto by Arutunian. In 1998 he conducted the York Sinfonietta in York Minster. Adam is a member of the York Brass which gave Elgar Howarth’s arrangement of Pictures at an Exhibition as part of the York Minster lunchtime concert series.

Since graduating Adam has worked in Government, advising on skills and training policy, and is a senior civil servant at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
